NAME

silent − prevent a shell command from being printed by the shell

SYNOPSIS

silent shell-command

DESCRIPTION

silent prevents shell commands from being printed by the shell, if possible, when shell command trace is enabled (for example, ksh -x). silent must precede ignore if both are used (see ignore(1)).

EXAMPLES

Omit the echo command line from the output when the trace output is enabled in the shell. The message is still output but the command line is not.
